Tomorrow is the day of Thanksgiving in he U.S. For all those celebrating in the traditional way with family and feasting and football, cheers to ya! In our younger years in Minnesota that was our way to celebrate too.
For us now, we will have a quiet day with some football, some parades that are not at all like we remember from childhood. We settled on a pot roast so I don’t spend the day cooking for just us two. Put it in the oven and voila, a one dish feast - if you are lucky enough to find a good cut of meat. I will make a corn pudding and some pies today, tomorrow will be easy. Family time will come via phone calls. Wishing for all our friends a peaceful and soul-sweet day!
Looking Back
Highlights of our year were our RV trip in May, Rick’s retirement in September, our first house concert back after hiatus with Jubal Lee Young, and our second house concert a week ago with Shinyribs.
Actually, November was chock full of great music experiences. Got to see our friend Ed Snodderly at the Bluebird and then the Station Inn, went to Muscle Shoals AL to celebrate Dan Penn’s birthday concert with Spooner Oldham, and fulfilled a long held house concert dream of hosting Shinyribs, Kevin Russell. Man… words are insufficient. As great as it was to have Kevin at Hillbilly Haiku - and it WAS great - even sweeter was the gift of friends from Texas and Wisconsin coming to TN to share the joy and reconnect (TX friends)/cement an online friendship (WI friends). Friends are all, and music friends are the verrrry best. Enjoy some photo memories!

Looking Forward
Our intention is to take December and January off, and come back with three Spring concerts in February, March and April. February 16 we are going to host a Sunday late afternoon concert with Jefferson Ross and Todd Hoke. These dear friends of Hillbilly Haiku are sort of our own version of the Smothers Brothers, if you will. I’ll just let you cogitate on that for now and fill in all the details in January. Suffice it to say, fun and great music own these two. Mark your calendars now!
I’m afraid we’re headed for some dark times, and not just winter. We will be leaning hard into the season of lights and looking after our friends, neighbors and less fortunate because that is where we find solace and hope. Hope you know how much we value this community. Holiday blessings galore to you and yours. Until we see each other again in the new year!
P.S. Jodee - how do I not have photos of you and Dan?! How the heck did we both drop that ball??? Thanks for sharing the photos you have.
What an amazing time. The warmth and love in that beautiful house of yours blended with wonderful people and amazing musicians is a gift beyond measure. Thank you again for everything. Oh, and I guess that means we have to get together again for some pictures! 😉🙌📷💕😻
Happy thanksgiving!
